A newer answer to an old thickness

High-density concrete and concrete block are a relatively new entry into the shielding line, alongside lead brick. Poured concrete and interlocking block offer a cost-effective alternative to lead for linear accelerator vaults and other applications that require heavy lead thickness. Depending on the requirement, HD concrete alone, or in combination with lead brick, delivers identical shielding at a lower cost.

Poured, pumped, or block

HD concrete can be poured, pumped, or conveyed during the initial construction of a vault. Three block styles are available:

  • Interlocking chevron block, the style pictured below
  • Solid rectangular block, laid with matching-density HD grout
  • 3-core HD masonry, also laid with matching-density HD grout

Installed by us, or by your mason

A-fabco can arrange installation, or you can work with the general contractor or masonry contractor already on the job, which may save money on the total project. In the job pictured, HD blocks were used not only in the walls: a steel-beam ceiling was constructed and the block was used for overhead protection as well.
